Is it time for a fun adventure on the water? Want to sharpen your sailing skills? Need a birthday or anniversary venue? Or, just want to do a bit of sightseeing?
During the past ten years we have outfitted Emma Lee to meet all our cruising needs for our trips to the San Juans and the Canadian Gulf Islands. We also race her in the winter and took first place in the Inshore Cruising Class in the Swiftsure International Race in 2019 and first place in the NFS Cruising Class in the Southern Sound Series in 2018.
The boat is available as a bareboat charter (with no Captain) or with me as the Captain. I have a USCG issued Captain's License, am an American Sailing Association certified sailing instructor, and love to help others learn to sail. I also am the Program Chair for the local sailing club where I facilitate a "New Sailboat Owners Course."
When I am the Captain, you have a choice of me doing the sailing or participating as an active member of the crew, including being at the helm.
It is a great boat for improving your sailing skills, for sunset dinners, for celebrating birthdays and anniversaries, scattering ashes, and having a fun adventure on Puget Sound. Also, there is no additional cost for additional passengers, so invite your friends, who can help pay the cost!
The sailboat has a refrigerator, an inflatable dinghy, a barbecue grill, hot and cold water, and all the dishes, bedding, and utensils you will need. It sleeps five adults and can accommodate six clients on day-cruises.
There are four State Marine Parks within three hours. Gig Harbor and Tacoma are a half-day away and Seattle can be reached in a longish day.
South Sound is known for its great views of the Olympics and Mt. Rainier, picturesque inlets and harbors, warmish swimming water (in July and August), and many bays and destinations to explore.
If you live in Western Oregon or Southwest Washington, Olympia is the gateway to Puget Sound. Also, if you are visiting from out-of-state or have out-of-town guests, chartering Emma Lee is a great way to enjoy Puget Sound. In addition, if you are thinking about buying a sailboat, I’d be happy to share my stories of buying used sailboats, including the benefits and pitfalls. In addition, I can help convince a reluctant significant other that sailing is fun and not a scary thing.
The boat can be chartered for multiple days. I will pay for fuel on charters with me as Captain and the renter will be responsible for fuel on bareboat charters.
If the weather forecast is not good on the day you reserve it, we can postpone your reservation to a later date or cancel.
We hope that chartering Emma Lee will be a fabulous experience for your family, as it has been for us and our prior clients. As you can see from the reviews, my prior guests -- WITHOUT EXCEPTION -- had a fabulous time and thought it was money well-spent.

Recommended Sailing Adventures
- Four-hours
Sail north on Budd Inlet and enjoy the thrill of sailing as members of the crew, learning how to tack, reach, and sail downwind. On clear days, Mt. Rainier and the Olympics will be on the horizon. In addition, seals and other sea life will be seen from the boat. If the wind is light, we can fly the spinnaker, anchor off Gull Harbor and have lunch, and go for a swim (for the hearty souls)
- Six-hours
We will have time to spend more time sailing and, if you desire, be able to sail and/or motor to Hope Island Marine Park, take the dingy to shore, and hike the trails and explore the beach. The island is known for its deer, fabulous trails, orchard, and raccoons who roam the shoreline in search of food.
- Eight-hours
In addition to visiting Hope Island and having more time to sail, we will have time to visit Boston Harbor by mooring at the marina and visiting their quaint store, buying ice cream cones, and sitting on their porch drinking a cool beverage. Or, we can leave around noon and have a sunset dinner with you using the barbecue and oven on the boat. This will be a day on Puget Sound that you and your family and friends will cherish forever.
- Two-Days with Captain (one night)
We will spend two fabulous days exploring Budd Inlet, Hope Island, and improving your sailing skills. We will moor at the Boston Harbor for the evening where you and your guests will watch the sun drop down beneath the Olympics, sleep on the boat, and wake to fresh coffee as you get ready for another day of adventure.
- Two+ Days Bareboat
For two days, there are multiple possible destinations, including Hope Island, Jarell Cove Marine Park, and Longbranch Marina. With three days, you can add Gig Harbor and Tacoma. If you have four days or more, you can also explore Blake Island, the Seattle Waterfront, Bainbridge Island, and beyond.
