We couldn’t have asked for a better time in the playpen! We rented 2 of Chris’s boats and tied them together for the day. The captains be arranged for us we’re a lot of fun and well organized. I would definitely choose this boat again!

The boat was really awesome and Captain Bill was fantastic! There was plenty of space to move around the cabin and we never felt crammed. Chris was very helpful throughout the booking process and helped us whenever we had questions. We had a slight weather delay and the captain was very communicative throughout the process. This was my first time booking a private boat and it was amazing! The booking process through Boatsetter was easy and Chris has really great communication. I had to attend a funeral and change the date of my reservation and he was also extremely accommodating. I used Captain William as my captain which the owner recommended and he was great as well. Overall a really great experience. I would definitely book again.

This was my first time using Boatsetter. I was planning my parents 50th anniversary celebration and I couldn't screw up the event or I never would have heard the end of it. Chris answered all of my many questions patiently and promptly. He also set us up with an amazing captain. The boat was perfect for our group of 8. I would highly recommend this experience.

My friends and I did the sunset/night cruise...Highly recommend for anyone who wants to see some pretty cool scenery of the Chicago skyline. From the beginning, Chris was very responsive and helpful when figuring out the best day and time to book. Once we got our time set, the directions of getting to and on the boat were simple. Our captain Chuck was very professional and often pointed out the big boats he sailed around the area. My friends and I left wanting to do it all over again! Highly recommend!

Our group of 11 adults rented Chris's boat for Saturday evening of the Chicago Air and Water show. Chris was great with communication and even though our captain backed out last minute, he helped me secure Captain Pat two days before our trip! Captain Pat was great and the boat had plenty of room for all of us! Great experience!

Me and my friends rented Hunter 40 from Chris on August 13, 2016 and it was a delightful experience. We also got to see the Navy Pier fireworks which was an added bonus. Our captain was Bill Mintz who was also very professional and experienced. Chris was very responsive throughout the process and answered all our questions with sufficient clarity. We had an amazing time on Chris's boat. It was very spacious, clean, and came equipped with everything we needed for a day on the lake. There was an aux cord and speakers so we could play music and there were coolers for food and drinks. The captain (Jeff) was GREAT! He taught us about sailing and made the trip really fun. Big Blue was a great boat for our group (7 adults and 3 children)! There was a large YETI cooler for our beverages (bring your own ice) and trash cans for trash/recycling. Everything was clean and comfortable. This boat is perfect for taking out on Wednesday or Saturday night during Navy Pier fireworks season as there is a lot of open-air seating perfect for a Chicago summer night. I highly recommend Captain Patrick- he was a fantastic captain and was great with our kids!

We had the BEST time celebrating a 30th birthday on Big Dog with Captain William! The boat is beautiful and certainly large enough for a small group of 6 to take adequate social distancing measures. Chris and Captain William took care of everything and it really felt like a mini vacation from reality. I would love to rent Big Dog again in the future!

We were in town for a bachelor party and rented Chris’ boat for a 6-9pm cruise. The boat was the perfect size for our party of 12. We had a great time cruising the shoreline and visiting the playpen. We rented the Mainship 39 Express for my birthday for 12 people. The boat was much larger then the pictures showed and we had plenty of room to move around. It was very comfortable and had a great sound system, I couldn't have asked for a better time at the Playpen. Chris was very easy to get in touch with and communicated very quickly when I had any questions. Thanks for providing a fantastic time and an unforgettable experience.

I booked with Chris for my husband’s 40th birthday. We had a great experience. Chris was prompt and responsive during the booking process and accommodating. The Mainship 39 was awesome and clean and the perfect size for me, my husband and our son. Our captain was Cortney. He was awesome! We had a great time. We had 5 teenagers on the boat and all of them had a great time. Captain Jimmy was really nice. It's a fun activity to do in the summer. Its a lot of money for four hours but during Covid its a great socially distant escape.

I would reach out to Chris before your trip If this is important to you. Chris is very responsive, we just didn’t notice it was missing until we were already at our destination. Great boat and it was very clean upon arrival. Great size bow for our party of 8. Interior carpeting was a bit damp, but not musty at all. It quickly dried out during our hours on the lake. Nice, clean cruiser with plenty of room our 6-person day sail. The boat could easily accommodate 2-4 more on board.

Chris was very good about communicating throughout the process. I performed a quick "checkout" sail a few weeks in advance, which mostly consisted of a basic walkthrough of the boat and some docking practice. No matter how many boats you've sailed, docking is a new boat for the first time can be a challenge and Chris was a patient instructor.

The boat performs reasonably well (8kts of speed off the wind with ~13kts of breeze) and the cockpit layout is a good balance between size and access to the controls. I was able to single-hand most of the time when needed without too much help from my inexperienced guests.

Overall, a solid value for a well-kept boat in the city.

This review is long over due but we rented this boat for a birthday/summer kick-off celebration. We had an amazing time! Chris was easy to work with and responded quickly to any questions. The boat was clean and beautiful and provided the perfect scene.

I rented Chris' boat for my birthday with 9 of my friends. It was such a great experience! Chris is very thorough and responds quickly and professionally to all messages. Even when our captain backed out a few days prior, Chris had a back-up within an hour. Chuck ended up being our captain and he was wonderful as well! The boat itself was lovely, clean, and a perfect place to watch the Navy Pier fireworks. Highly recommend!

Chris was great to work with and got us set up with everything we needed (Captain/directions) easily. It was clear the boat was new to Chris / Captain Kelly. The anchor was not big enough causing our boat to drift, so we were unable to stay in the "Play Pen" near other boats. This was a bummer, but it wasn't a beautiful day so we were okay with it. Chris allowed us to hang out on the boat (docked) longer than scheduled which we appreciated. Hopefully the anchor is sorted out by now!

Chris was AWESOME, when another boat owner canceled last minute (because they got a better deal) Chris came through and provided a super nice boat for us. Chris is very prompt with emails, and even got us a captain last minute. Chuck was a great Captain!
Boatsetter customer service is terrible, so do your homework, and make sure you hire someone reputable, I can’t stress this enough!

Chris was very responsive and helpful throughout the process. He was at the boat when we arrived to make sure the handoff went smoothly.

Boutbound Community:
I recently bareboat chartered a Hunter 40 from owner Chris over the 4th of July weekend. Wow what a great time! The owner Chris has a nice mid 1980's Hunter 40 that seems pretty well maintained. He came and made berths and made sure all was clean before leaving us the first evening. He came back the following day for our shakedown cruise since the wind was blowing to 30 knots the day prior. He made sure we could get in and out of the slip without crashing into his neighbors and we did a short sail to his satisfaction. We had a great time sailing along the Chicago shoreline for the next few days and then going to the GD concerts in the evenings. Truly epic! All the dock neighbors were pleasant and welcoming.
If you are looking for a pristine sailing yacht this isn't the boat for you but if you are looking for a good value and a good sailing boat that is located perfectly for sailing the Chicago shoreline and being home base for adventuring into Chicago, Advantage is perfect.

We had a great experience with Chris. Chris works with you to insure everything is addresses, and he even connected us with a captain to take us out on the lake. Highly recommended.

We had the best day on Chris's boat! It's the perfect size boat for a small group of people. The boat was very nice and clean, & had a small bathroom. The captains were very accomodating & respectful of us. It was a great day for sailing and the captains knew exactly where to take us and taught us a little about how to sail, they made it really fun.
Chris was great to work with, easy to communicate with, and even gave us a 1/2 day rate. I have already forwarded his info onto some friends of mine looking to charter a sailboat.
I have nothing negative to say about the whole expierence-thanks Chris!!!
