“I’m Sommy Irani, a Chicago-based hospitality entrepreneur whose connection to the water started long before I ever owned a boat. I grew up in and around aquatics and spent years as a competitive swimmer, which gave me a deep respect for the water and taught me the importance of preparation, awareness, and taking a proactive—not reactive—approach to safety. In 2019, I brought that mindset into boating and began building what has become the largest boat charter fleet in Chicago. Today, Knot My Boat Charters operates 23 vessels and welcomes more than 40,000 guests each season, and somewhere along the way, our team and I completely fell in love with boating and sharing life on the water with others. But at our core, we’re hospitality people. I’m the Founder & CEO of HiFi Social, a hospitality management group specializing in travel, events, and experience-driven businesses. Across our brands, we help more than 550,000 people travel, celebrate, and create memories each year and have produced more than $85 million in lifetime bookings. We live and breathe event planning, operations, and hospitality, and whether we’re producing an experience for thousands of people or helping a small group plan the perfect afternoon on the lake, we bring the same attention to detail and care to every experience. What I learned through competitive swimming—and later through years of building hospitality businesses—has translated incredibly well to boating: prepare for everything, take safety seriously, anticipate what guests need, sweat the details, and then let people focus on having an amazing time together. That philosophy has shaped our boating company into what it is today.
